Building And Detailing Scale Model Cars
by Pat Covert March 2006
Very few hobbies offer more ways to gratify their devotees than car
modeling. Many do it for the simple fact that they enjoy working
with their hands. Some prefer to build a model replica of a car
they own or have owned in the past. Others desire building certain types
of cars because they dream of owning one, driving one, or being able to
admire the car at any given time. Modelers can take time out to
dream any time by simply walking over to the display shelf and letting a
model car transport them to automotive Valhalla. The act of building a
model car requires strategic planning, mental preparation, hand-to-eye
coordination, and the determination to achieve an end goal. Building
and Detailing Scale Model Cars reveals the fundamentals of building,
painting, and detailing model cars. Author Pat Covert has left no
stone unturned. He uses over 300 detailed color photographs to
illustrate techniques, tools, adhesives, paint, polish, masking and
decals, weathering, fine detailing, and more.

How to Use an Airbrush
Airbrush Painting Techniques
This book is designed to impart the techniques of using this effective
tool quickly and easily. All three types of airbrush are examined and
explained in simple terms. The title also boasts an excellent section on
actually using the airbrush, and studies in depth the painting of four
different miniatures. Clear photographs are taken of the painting
process on each different model, showing all sorts of exciting
techniques. Methods of lightening and darkening, representing camouflage
and weathering and mixing exactly the right colour are all explained. A
book that will suit both complete beginners and those wanting to get
more out of their airbrush.
Basic Aviation Modelling
This is the first in a new series of highly illustrated books for the
model maker. Basic
Aviation Modelling is an excellent introduction to
the art of making model aeroplanes from kits. High definition pictures
take the reader through all the stages of making a variety of kits. The
emphasis throughout is to make the tasks understandable in a
step-by-step format. Working with readily available kits from
Tamiya,
Verlinden and Revell, the less experienced modeller is shown the do's
and don'ts of modelling techniques with particular emphasis on the
common difficulties that the inexperienced modeller might face. This
series will build into a library of practical information for the
modeller.
Advanced Aviation Modelling
This is the second in the new Modelling Manual series which
sets out to help the more experienced modeller to improve techniques and
expand their modelling horizons. Working with models like the MIG27
Fulcrum, the A-10, and the WW1 Roland Walfisch the reader is shown how
with patience and care these and other models can be superdetailed to a
very high standard. Very detailed colour photographs and a concise but
explanatory text show the modeller how to turn a basic kit model into a
show-stopper.
Scale Aircraft Modelling
Starting with the very basics, the author guides you through
the essential skills and techniques needed to build a scale model
aircraft to be proud of. Concentrating on the construction of plastic
kits in the popular scales, Scale Aircraft Modelling also looks at how
to improve your model or create a different version by using specially
manufactured components in plastic, resin and metal.
WWII Aircraft Volume II
Following on the heals of the highly successful volume I in this new
series, this edition continues the Verlinden legacy of beautifully
photographed, incredibly detailed scale models displayed in attractive
diorama settings. Again divided into six separate sections, the subjects
in this book include three made by the professional staff at Verlinden
Studios: a 1:48 scale German twin-engined Messerschmitt Bf 110G-4
nightfighter updated with highly detailed Verlinden Productions resin
and photo-etched metal detail parts, a 1:48 scale Boeing B-17G Flying
Fortress displayed after having been shot down over Europe, complete
with very realistic flak and bullet holes, and finally, a pair of the
revolutionary German Me-262 jet fighters, one a single-seat jet bomber,
and the other a rare two-seat nightfighter. These two are again highly
detailed with Verlinden Productions resin and photo-etched parts, and
share a diorama base depicting a routine day on a Luftwaffe airbase,
complete w! ith spare parts and maintenance equipment. Two models from
Gordon Stronach, a highly skilled professional modeler from the
Verlinden staff, are featured including a pair of exquisitely detailed
1:48 German JU-87 Stuka dive bombers undergoing engine changes in a
North African setting, and a beautifully detailed and weathered1:48
Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat of the U.S. Navy undergouing routine maintenance
on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Another accomplished modeler, Noel
Lawson, is credited with a beautifully detailed and painted 1:32 scale
SBD-5 Dauntless dive bomber of the U.S.Navy. Each article is
supplemented with informative, step-by-step descriptions and photographs
to show the reader how such beautiful results were achieved. A must for
any serious
scale modeler, as well as aviation enthusiasts and WWII
buffs.

Modelling and Painting Figures (Osprey Modelling Manuals, Volume 8)
Probably the greatest test of the modeller is achieving the perfectly
posed figure. This title explains how best to set up the figure, and

clothing etc. With no detail unexplored, everything is clearly explained
with step by step photos.
Building Military Dioramas (Volume 1)
This book is the fourth in the new modeling series by Verlinden
Productions. The main focus of this book is the delicate art of diorama
composition, construction, and painting. Five magnificent dioramas
created by VP Studios cover every stage in the complicated development
of these pieces, in a very easy to follow step-by-step process. Every
aspect is covered, from dealing with multiple levels, multiple angles,
modeling water, distribution of the various elements, blending colors,
foliage, ground debris, focal points, etc. Nothing has been overlooked
in this compact and comprehensive book. Two bonus articles showcase the
work of two very accomplished modelers, Young Jin Won, and Greg Chilar.
The former, renowned for his figure painting skills, accomplishes a
difficult feat by composing a Vietnam diorama comprising of only
figures, numbering some 14 in all. The latter shows the effectiveness of
the large 120mm scale with his prizewinning RETREAT FROM
BUDAPEST, which
beautifully depicts retreating Germans late in WWII tending their
wounded in the shadow of the mighty Panther tank. This book caters not
only to the dedicated modeler, but also to the historian and military
enthusiast, as well as the artist.

Ship Modeling Simplified:
Tips and Techniques for
Model Construction from Kits
In Ship Modeling Simplified, master model builder Frank
Mastini puts to paper the methods he's developed over 30 years at the
workbench to help novices take their first steps in an exciting pastime.
You don't need the deftness of a surgeon or the vocabulary of an old
salt to build a model. What you need is an understanding coach. Mastini
leads readers from the mysteries of choosing a kit and setting up a
workshop through deciphering complicated instructions and on to
painting, decorating, and displaying finished models--with patience and
clarity, not condescension. He reveals dozens of shortcuts: How to plank
a hull "egg-shell tight"; how to build and rig complicated
mast assmeblies without profanity; how to create sails that look like
sails. . . . And along the way he points out things that beginners
usually do wrong--beforehand, not after they've taken hammers to their
projects.
Ship Modeling
Simplified even includes an
Italian-English dictionary of nautical terms, the key to assembling the
many high-quality Italian kits on the American market.
Model building is fun, and not nearly as difficult
as some experts would have you believe. Here is everything you'll ever
need to get started in a hobby that will last a lifetime.
